The UHS library is a specialized medical/health sciences library intended to serve the faculty, students, researchers and staff of the university. The library has a plentiful and diversified collection of information resources. The collection of the library is developed in line with the requirements of offered courses as well as to support research endeavors being undertaken at the university. Providing support to scholarly pursuits and research activities along with curriculum related needs of the students and faculty of the university are the determinants for selection and procuring new library material. The UHS library is exploiting state-of-the-art technology and systems. Library is utilizing open source integrated library system i.e. Koha, to automate its operations. Similarly, EM based security system has been deployed to secure the library collections. The collection of the library is being added, with a steady pace, to keep the collection updated. Besides books on hardcore medical subjects, library also possesses some books of popular literature and Islam. Currently, UHS library houses over 6,000 printed and 50,000 electronic books, 35,000 electronic journals are accessible across the campus as well as remotely through VPN facility. Library also owns other materials including audios, videos, CD-ROMS, DVDs, etc. In order to provide maximum facilitation to faculty and students of the university, seminar libraries have also been established within the academic departments of the university. These seminar libraries help faculty of concerned department to fulfill their information needs immediately. The professional and para-professional staff of the UHS library remains available round the clock to assist library users in their academic endeavours through high quality innovative services.

The books and other reading materials are arranged subject wise into various sections. The library material has been classified through internationally recognized; the Dewey Decimal classification scheme, which provides basis to catalogue and shelving of information resources.

Saturday - Sunday 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Library Collections

The library has a range of collections both in print and electronic formats. The major collections are:

General Collection

This is the main collection containing high quality selective books related to the UHS academic programmes. The major subject areas are Anatomy, Allied Health Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemical Pathology, Family Medicine, Forensic Sciences, Human Genetics & Molecular Biology, Haematology, Immunology, Medical Education, Microbiology, Morbid Anatomy & Histopathology, Nursing, Oral Biology, Oral Pathology, Physiology, and Pharmacology. The general collection also contains some selected books on famous literature and Islam.

Reference Collection
A variety of current reference sources are available In the library. This collection also contains dictionaries, encyclopedias, and handbooks.
Electronic Resources
The library provides access to a number of electronic resources which include more than 35,000 e-journals and e-books. Access to these resources is also available remotely through VPN facility
UHS Digital Library
UHS library is planning to create its own digital library with the help of open source technologies. The UHS digital library will contain digital resources such as electronic books, faculty research, student projects, theses and presentations.
Library Systems and Services

Circulation Services
Presently, UHS library does not offer lending services. However, students can read the library books with in the library. We are in process to initiate circulation services and these will be started very soon.
WI-FI Facility
Wi-Fi facility is available in the UHS Library. Patrons can use any device with a built-in wireless adaptor to avail this service.
Inter Library Loan (ILL)
UHS library has made special arrangements to obtain books and other information material through inter library loan from other libraries and information centres, if a book or item is not available in the library. Request can be placed through e-mail: library@uhs.edu.pk or EXT. 333

Research Support Services

Literature Searching
The library does its best to facilitate its patrons in searching for relevant literature in order to support their academic and research endeavors.
Information Literacy Programs
The library provides instructional programs to maximize its patrons' use of library resources and services. These include orientation programmes, hands-on trainings, in-class sessions, and workshops and seminars on various instructional and research tools like Turnitin, Endnote, SPSS, and also on the use of various electronic databases.

Plagiarism Detection Management Services
The library facilitates UHS faculty's access to online plagiarism detection and management softwares, such as Turnitin.

The library facilitates researchers, faculty and students of the university in managing their citations/bibliographies. For this purpose, we are exploiting commercial as well as free-of- cost citation management tools. These tools include End Note, Ref Works, Mendeley and Zotero. The library also provides hands-on training in effectively utilize these resources.

Document Delivery Service
The library has special arrangement with international document supply centers. If a journal article is not available within library holdings or online databases, the library can get it delivered electronically. The electronic document delivery service is restricted to research projects only. If you could not find your required electronic resource, you can write to us at: (Iibrarian@uhs.edu.pk). We shall try to find your required document and respond within 24 hours.
On Line Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
We are also pleased to share that an integrated library management system has been deployed in the library. Technical processing and data entry of library resources is underway. A web OPAC will be launched soon after the completion of data entry. This is also one among the pre-requisites for offering automated circulation services
Table Of Contents And Provision Of Articles & Electronic Books
The library regularly sends table of contents of subscribed resources to faculty of the university. Full text articles, in print or electronic format, are also provided on request. Form to subscribe table of contents service is available at (Provide link E-resource Request Form) or at library helpdesk. Send your requests related to full text articles at library@uhs.edu.pk. Users can also request for electronic books through E-resource Request Form (Provide link)

In order to facilitate library users, UHS library also provides paid printing, photocopying and scanning facilities on following rates:-

Cambridge University Press (CUP)

Cambridge Journals Online is the online content delivery service for Cambridge University Pressís collection of nearly 200 leading journals in the field of Politics, Linguistics, Social Science, Humanities, Law, Mathematics, Science, and Medicine.


ebrary offers a wide variety of multidisciplinary content. It provides access to full-text electronic books of leading academic publishers on Health, Biomedical & Clinical Services and Life & Physical Sciences.

Science Online

It provides access to the full text of Science publication. It allows users to search within Science and across a multitude of scientific journals.

Springer Link

SpringerLink provides access to 503 full-text Springer-Verlag Journals and 738 full-text journals formerly published by Kluwer Academic Publishing. This is one of the world's leading information services for Science, Technical and Medical journals.

Taylor & Francis Journals

Taylor & Francis has grown rapidly over the last two decades to become a leading international academic publisher. It provides access to more than 1000 journal titles in a full range of disciplines including behavioral science, chemistry, public health and social care, environment and agriculture.

This online database contains over 1,234 journals in science, technology, medicine, humanities and social sciences.

McGraw-Hill's AccessMedicine.com is an innovative online resource that provides students, clinicians and researchers with instant answers to their clinical questions from the most trusted sources. Updated daily by world-renowned physicians and expanding continuously. It helps diagnosis and treatment of 4,700 diseases and disorders. It contains Harrison's Grand Round Lecture Series. McGraw-Hill's Access Science

Virtual Private Network

University of Health Sciences (UHS) library, with the support of Department of Information Technology (DIT) of the university, has deployed Virtual Private Network (VPN) to facilitate library users in their researches through providing them remote access to digital library/electronic resources of the University. The facility will assist usersí access to full text electronic resources; including articles and books when they are away from the university campus.

How to Obtain VPN Use Credentials

VPN use credentials may be obtained by submitting duly filled VPN request form to UHS library. The VPN request form may be found from UHS library or downloaded from [For Faculty | For Students]. The processing time is one working day.

VPN Use Policies

a. VPN facility is for individual use only.

b. VPN Users are requested to bring their laptops for getting VPN configured. Alternatively, they can download configuration guidelines

c. VPN users are responsible for the security of their access credentials. Any unauthorized use will be liable to disciplinary action.

d. Unauthorized use of the VPN is strictly prohibited and is strongly discouraged. University reserves the right to take legal action against culprits.

e. Any kind of misuse, redirection, use of network discovery tools and penetration testing is not permitted to use while connected to UHS network.

f. University may suspend or block the VPN account on violation of use policies.

g. UHS reserves the right to audit all VPN client systems, and all communication between VPN users systems and the UHS network, for compliance with all applicable information technology services security requirements
