Introduction of Program

Doctor of Physical therapy is a 5 years Clinical Degree program; that constitute of the Laboratory practice, Class lectures and Clinical Rotations in Different hospitals. Degree holders will be able to title themselves as "Doctor of Physical Therapy".

Physical therapy is an essential segment of modern health care system. It is a "Science of Healing and art of caring". It pertains to the clinical examination, evaluation, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal, Neurological, Cardio-Vascular and Respiratory systems' functional disorders including symptoms of pain, edema, and physiological, structural and psychosomatic ailments. It deals with methods of treatment based on movement, manual therapy, physical agents, and therapeutics modalities to relieve the pain and other complications.

Hence, Physical therapy covers basic parameters of healing sciences i.e. preventive, promotional, diagnostic, rehabilitative, and curative.

The primary mission of the department is to produce knowledgeable, effective, adaptable and reflective practitioners who demonstrate ethical, responsible, professional behavior, and sensitive to cultural and psychosocial differences, use evidence derived from research to inform independent judgments to meet patient needs, utilize critical and integrative thinking and problem-solving, practice lifelong learning, and provide services that contribute to the optimal health and function of the residents of the communities they serve.

American Vision statement of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program:

American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) developed the new nomenclature of Entry level Physiotherapy degree as: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) in a statement called the vision 2020 developed in the year 2000. (Last Updated: 10/4/2011). According to APTA guidelines student after Graduating in DPT program can be title as Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Vision 2020 Sentence for Physical Therapy

By the year 2020, physical therapy will be provided by physical therapists who are doctors of physical therapy, recognized by consumers and other health care professionals as the practitioners of choice to whom consumers have direct access for diagnosis, interventions, and prevention of impairments, activity limitations, participation restrictions, and environmental barriers related to movement, function, and health.

Physical therapists will be practitioners of choice in patients'/clients' health networks and will hold all privileges of autonomous practice. Guided by integrity, life-long learning, and a commitment to comprehensive and accessible health programs for all people, physical therapists will render evidence-based services throughout the continuum of care and improve quality of life for society. They will provide culturally sensitive care distinguished by trust, respect, and an appreciation for individual differences.

While fully availing themselves of new technologies, as well as basic and clinical research, physical therapists will continue to provide direct patient/client care. They will maintain active responsibility for the growth of the physical therapy profession and the health of the people it serves.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) is a clinical doctoral degree (entry level degree) that reflects the growth in the body of knowledge and expected responsibilities that a professional physical therapist must master to provide best practice to the consumer. All physical therapists are obligated to engage in the continual acquisition of knowledge, skills, and abilities to advance the science of physical therapy and its role in the delivery of health care.

Autonomous Physical Therapist Practice

Physical therapists accept the responsibility to practice autonomously and collaboratively in all practice environments to provide best practice to the patient/client. Autonomous physical therapist practice is characterized by independent, self-determined, professional judgment and action.

Direct Access

Every consumer has the legal right to directly access a physical therapist throughout his/her lifespan for the diagnosis of, interventions for, and prevention of, impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities related to movement, function and health.

Evidence-based Practice

Evidence-based practice is access to, and application and integration of evidence to guide clinical decision making to provide best practice for the patient/client. Evidence-based practice includes the integration of best available research, clinical expertise, and patient/client values and circumstances related to patient/client management, practice management, and health care policy decision making. Aims of evidence-based practice include enhancing patient/client management and reducing unwarranted variation in the provision of physical therapy services.

Practitioner of Choice

Physical therapists personify the elements of Vision 2020 and are recognized as the preferred providers among consumers and other health care professionals for the diagnosis of, interventions for, and prevention of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities related to movement, function, and health.

Physical therapists consistently demonstrate core values by aspiring to and wisely applying principles of altruism, excellence, caring, ethics, respect, communication and accountability and by working together with other professionals to achieve optimal health and wellness in individuals and communities

10. Practice of students as House officers after completion of the program, all students will be provided Paid house job for one year to flourish them in the field and pulling out the maximum potential out of the students. Degrees will be awarded after completion of House job.

Curriculum to Follow:

The Department will follow the Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved Curriculum of (DPT)

Course descriptions and syllabi also are included in the curriculum. All students take all courses. The special emphasis of the curriculum, consistent with an entry-level degree into the profession and with our mission, is to graduate knowledgeable, effective, adaptable and reflective physical therapist practitioners who demonstrate ethical, responsible, professional behavior, are sensitive to cultural and psychosocial differences, use evidence derived from research to inform independent judgments to meet patient needs, utilize critical and integrative thinking and problem-solving, practice lifelong learning, and provide services that contribute to the optimal health and function of the residents of the communities they serve.

Scope of Practice:

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program is an under-graduate 5 years program designed to prepare Physical Therapy practitioners grounded in evidence-based practice in Physical Therapy. The program consists of a combination of lecture, laboratory, and clinical practice experiences in hospital settings with multidisciplinary approach, over 5 years span that fully integrates evidence-based practice into classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences. One year PAID HOUSE-JOB Following successful completion of 5 years, graduates will be eligible to appoint as Physical Therapist house officers in at least 200 bedded Hospital. They are so well equipped that they can start their own private Practice after completion of House Jobs. Graduates will be prepared for practice across the health care continuum and across the lifespan.

BS (Public Health)

Introduction of Program

Public health is an applied science that deals with core concepts of disease prevention and control. The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) is an undergraduate degree that prepares students to pursue careers in the public, private, or non-profit sector in areas such as health services manager, environmental health specialist, health economist, health administration, epidemiology, nutrition, maternal health, child health, reproductive health, health promotion, health policy, health planning, community health worker and related areas. The demand for educated, experienced public health professionals will continue to rise based on growing populations and the need for disease prevention, surveillance and education.


The fee structure of BS Public Health will be Rs. 60,500 per semester with admission fee Rs. 10,000 and registration fee Rs. 1,500 once at a time of admission.

BS (Biomedical Sciences)

Introduction of Program

The BS Biomedical Sciences course at University of Health Sciences has been designed to provide the students firm grounding in molecular, cellular and human biology subjects forming the basis of modern medicine and related biological sciences. The course is truly interdisciplinary in nature that provides students an opportunity to study a wide range of subjects including human anatomy; human physiology; biochemistry; genetics, pathological basis of disease, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology and forensic sciences. The distinctive aspect of this course, combining basic biological sciences with basic medical sciences, provides the intellectual tools and scientific proficiency students will need to succeed in advanced studies or career in the health related fields.


The fee structure of BS Biomedical Sciences will be Rs 60,500/- per semester with admission fee Rs 10,000/- and registration fee Rs 1500/- once at the time of admission.

BS (Genetics & Molecular Biology)

Introduction of Program

Genetics and Molecular Biology program at UHS offers a Bachelor of Science degree upon completion of a 4-year curriculum taught in English. Students will be mainly educated in molecular biology and various fields of genetics such as biomedical sciences, molecular medicine, disease prevention and treatment, generation of new protein products, and manipulation of plants and animals for desired phenotypic traits, that are designed to train students for post graduates studies in the related fields. In addition, optional courses include other fields of biology such as immunology, Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Epidemiology and Bioinformatics.


The fee structure of B.S. in Genetics & Molecular Biology will be Rs. 60,500/-per semester with admission fee Rs.10,000/- and registration fee Rs.1500/- once at a time of admission.
