MS & PhD FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications under Higher Education Commission funded project are invited from candidates possessing medical / dental professional qualification duly recognized by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council and / or Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in the following disciplines for the grant of scholarships for pursuing higher studies leading to award of MS or PhD degree in HEC identified world top ranked universities:

· MS in Biochemistry, Immunology, Pharmacology, and Medical Education.

· PhD in Medical Education, Microbiology and Pharmacology.

After completion of their respective MS or PhD degrees the selectees shall be required to serve on the faculty of the University of Health Sciences, Lahore for at least 5 years and will sign an affidavit to this effect.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Pakistan / AJK nationals only.
  2. MBBS / BDS with M.Phil. or equivalent with minimum of 18 years of education for PhD program
  3. Maximum two 2nd divisions throughout the academic career
  4. No 3rd division in academic career and the aggregate score of all the examinations passed should not be less than 50%.
  5. Maximum age on the closing date of submission of application:
    1. 40-years for full time faculty members of public sector Universities/Colleges and R&D organization.
    2. 35-years for all others.
  6. Should have minimum cumulative 50% academic marks as per HEC Academic Evaluation Formula (HEC-AEF).
  7. Candidates who are availing any other HEC / Government scholarships are not eligible to apply.
  8. The selected applicants will have to secure admission into a MS or PhD program in the specified disciplines in the HEC identified world top ranked discipline wise universities. The list of these university & disciplines is available on HEC website: www.hec.edu.pk/ossphase2batch4
  9. The candidate must have passed GRE / GAT / NTS Test.
  10. The candidates must have minimum of 16 years of education leading to award of terminal degree.

Selection:

The selection of the candidates for PhD / MS will be through open National Competition by merit established through HEC-AEF (Academic Evaluation formula) for faculty members and other candidates. The applicants fulfilling the criteria will be required to appear before a Selection Committee of University of Health Sciences, Lahore. Scholarship will be offered to the successful candidates by the University.

  • Applicants will have to submit bank draft of Rs. 1,000/- as processing fee (nonrefundable), along with the application form, in favour of Treasurer, University of Health Sciences, Lahore.

Notice for Preparation of Documents

It is announced for the information of all concerned that the process for admission to Public Sector Medical / Dental Colleges of the Punjab shall start in August this year and the Entrance Test is expected to be held in September 2013.

All prospective candidates are advised to ensure the availability of the following documents at the time of submitting application for admission:

  1. Domicile Certificate of the candidate (No other certificate or document shall be acceptable in lieu of domicile of the candidate).
  2. Certificates or Result Cards of SSC and HSSC (Pre-Medical Group).
  3. Eight (08) recent coloured photographs (size 3.5cm x 4.5cm), Two (02) coloured photographs (size 2.5cm x 2.5cm).
  4. Applicant having equivalent foreign qualifications (O and A-Level, 12th Grade, etc.) shall have to provide Equivalence Certificate issued by Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).

IMPORTANT

  1. Appearance in the Entrance Test conducted by the University of Health Sciences Lahore is mandatory for admission to any public or private medical / dental college of the Punjab.
  2. The syllabus and pattern of Entrance Test 2013 is available on UHS website www.uhs.edu.pk. The candidates are advised to prepare for the Entrance Test according to this syllabus from their respective text books.
  3. The candidates are also advised to refrain from taking preparatory courses offered by commercial academies.

POSTGRADUATE ENTRANCE TEST Academic Session 2013-14
ADDENDUM

This is with reference to the advertisement appeared in the daily “Jang” and “The Dawn” on April 28, 2013. It is further clarified that :

1. The candidates desirous of admission to on-campus MPhil programme in Allied Health Sciences of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore, shall also appear in the Entrance Test to be held from 12:00 Noon to 02:00 P.M on 18th May, 2013 at UHS Lahore.

2. All the candidates desirous of admission to any on-campus postgraduate programme of UHS Lahore, are required to submit their applications on prescribed Application Form, available on UHS website (www.uhs.edu.pk/downloads) , along with necessary documents, on or before 10th May, 2013, before closing hours, at UHS Lahore.

3. Admission process for various on-campus postgraduate programmes of UHS Lahore shall be advertised separately. Though appearance in Entrance Test is a mandatory requirement for admission, it is, in no way, a guarantee for admission which would only be granted on merit and on fulfilling basic minimum eligibility criteria set by the university for admission to a particular programme.

4. The GAT-General Test conducted by NTS, with minimum 50% cumulative score will be required at the time of admission to MPhil. However, it is not a pre-requisite for appearance in the PG Entrance Test to be conducted by the university.

5. The rest of the conditions as laid down in the advertisement of April 28, 2013, shall remain the same.

POSTGRADUATE ENTRANCE TEST Academic Session 2013-14

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore shall conduct an Entrance Test for admission to postgraduate courses for the session 2013-14, on Saturday, May 18, 2013.

It is mandatory for a candidate desirous of admission to any postgraduate programme being offered on-campus or at any affiliated institution of the University, to appear in the said test.

FORMAT OF ENTRANCE TEST

There shall be a single question paper comprising 100 multiple choice question (MCQs). Total time allowed for the test shall be two (02) hours.

TYPES OF ENTRANCE TEST

There shall be three types of Entrance Test:

PROCESS OF REGISTRATION

1. The candidates are required to register for the test at the concerned institution where they wish to get admission.

2. The respective institutions shall submit the details of applicants to UHS with clear identification of each category i.e. clinical and basic groups with their subjects or specialty of choice (Hard and Soft form) till 10th May, 2013 before closing hours.

3. All the candidates are required to reach University of Health Sciences Lahore, one hour before the start of their respective test on 18th May, 2013, along with their original CNIC. The Roll Number Slips shall be issued on the spot.

IMPORTANT

1. UHS shall conduct only one Entrance Test for admission to postgraduate courses for the session 2013-14, which will be held on 18th May, 2013. No other test for the same courses shall be held this year.

2. As per HEC guidelines, GAT-General Test conducted by National Testing Services, with a minimum 50 per cent cumulative score will be required at the time for admission to MPhil courses. The GAT-General Test is valid for a period of two (02) years.

Certificate in Medical Teaching
in Collaboration with University of Liverpool, UK

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore is launching a certificate course for young medical teachers in collaboration with University of Liverpool, UK. The objective is to give young teachers basic knowledge, skills and competence for a successful medical teaching career.

DURATION:
The programme will be taught in two blocks of four days each at the University of Health Sciences. There will be an interval of approximately three (03) months between the two blocks. During this interval, the students are required to submit online assignments to their supervisors.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT:
The applicant must be working as a Senior Registrar/Demonstrator or Assistant Professor in a medical or dental college or a teaching hospital of the Punjab.

ADMISSION PROCESS:

  1. The candidates desirous of admission must apply through proper channel on the prescribed application form available at UHS website: Admission Form for Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Teaching
  2. The application form with attested copies of certificates, testimonials and CNIC along with three passport size colour photographs must reach the office of Director (Admin & HR) on or before Feb 10, 2014, before the closing hours. The first contact session would start on March 03, 2014.
  3. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview.

CERTIFICATE:
On successful completion of the course, UHS will award a certificate to the candidate. This will be accompanied by a Certificate of Attendance by the University of Liverpool, UK.

Eligibility of Programs

B.Sc. (Hons.) Allied Health Sciences (4 years)

  1. Entry level for all B.Sc. Allied Health sciences Programs should be uniform and it shall be F.Sc. Pre-Medical or F.Sc. in relevant technology from a board of Intermediate & Secondary Education / equivalent (as determined by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen, Islamabad), with at least 50 % unadjusted marks, w.e.f. academic year 2010.
  2. There shall be no age restriction for admission in B.Sc. (Hons.) Allied Health Sciences courses.

B.Sc. Nursing (4 years)

  1. Selection will be purely on merit.mmittee of Chairmen, Islamabad), with at least 50 % unadjusted marks, w.e.f. academic year 2010.
  2. Requisite qualification-F.Sc. Pre-medical (with at least 50% unadjusted marks).
  3. Age limit shall be 17 to 25 years.
  4. The decision of selection board / committee of respective institution will be final.

B.Sc. Nursing (2 years)

  1. Diploma in General nursing registered with Pakistan Nursing Council.
  2. Diploma in Midwifery/for male nurses 1 year specialized course registered with Pakistan Nursing Council.
  3. Minimum of 02 years’ experience
  4. Age limit & gender not applicable
  5. Admission test, interview by the Institute concerned

Postgraduate Clinical Diplomas-DA (2 years)

  1. MBBS/equivalent qualification registered with PMDC and fulfillment of one of the following criteria, in given order of preference:
    • Diploma in Midwifery/for male nurses 1 year specialized course registered with Pakistan Nursing Council.
    • Minimum of 02 years’ experience
  2. Securing pass %age in the Entry Test as determined by UHS and qualifying the interview successfully

Postgraduate Clinical Diplomas-Dip. Card. (2 years)

  1. MBBS/equivalent qualification registered with PMDC and fulfillment of one of the following criteria, in given order of preference:
    • One year experience in General Medicine as Medical Officer or House Officer
    • Six months experience in the Cardiology and six months in allied specialty as Medical Officer or House Officer
  2. Securing pass %age in the Entry Test as determined by UHS and qualifying the interview successfully

Postgraduate Clinical Diplomas-DCH (2 years)

  1. MBBS/equivalent qualification registered with PMDC and fulfillment of one of the following criteria, in given order of preference:
    • One year experience in Paediatrics as Medical Officer or House Officer
    • Six months experience in Paediatrics and six months in allied specialty as Medical Officer or House Officer
    • One year experience in General Medicine as Medical Officer or House Officer
  2. Securing pass %age in the Entry Test as determined by UHS and qualifying the interview successfully

Postgraduate Clinical Diplomas-DCP (2 years)

  1. MBBS/equivalent qualification registered with PMDC and fulfillment of one of the following criteria, in given order of preference:
    • One year experience in Pathology as a Demonstrator in a recognized teaching institution
    • Six months experience in Pathology as a Demonstrator and six months house job in one of the major clinical disciplines (Medicine/Surgery/ Gynae. & Obst.)
    • Two years experience of working in a reputable accredited Pathology lab with all 4 pathology disciplines, belonging to non-teaching institution
  2. Securing pass %age in the Entry Test as determined by UHS and qualifying the interview successfully.

Postgraduate Clinical Diplomas-DGO (2 years)

  1. MBBS/equivalent qualification registered with PMDC and fulfillment of one of the following criteria, in given order of preference:
    • One year experience in Gynecology & Obstetrics as Medical Officer or House Officer
    • Six months experience in Gynecology & Obstetrics and six months in allied specialty as Medical Officer or House Officer
  2. Securing pass %age in the Entry Test as determined by UHS and qualifying the interview successfully.

Postgraduate Clinical Diplomas-DLO (2 years)

  1. MBBS/equivalent qualification registered with PMDC and fulfillment of one of the following criteria, in given order of preference:
    • One year experience in ENT as Medical Officer or House Officer
    • Six months experience in ENT and six months in allied specialty as Medical Officer or House Officer
    • One year experience in Surgery as Medical Officer or House Officer
  2. Securing pass %age in the Entry Test as determined by UHS and qualifying the interview successfully

Postgraduate Clinical Diplomas-DMJ (2 years)

  1. MBBS/equivalent qualification registered with PMDC and fulfillment of one of the following criteria, in given order of preference:
    • Two years experience as Demonstrator in the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology of a Medical College recognized by PMDC
    • Four years experience as Casualty Medical Officer in a Govt. DHQ/THQ Hospital allied specialty as Medical Officer or House Officer

Postgraduate Clinical Diplomas-DTCD (2 years)

    • One year experience in TB & Chest Diseases as Medical Officer or House Officer from a recognized institution
    • Six months experience in TB & Chest Diseases and six months in General Medicine as Medical officer or House Officer
    • One year experience in General Medicine as Medical officer or House Officer
  2. Securing pass %age in the Entry Test as determined by UHS and qualifying the interview successfully.

MS/MD

  1. MBBS/equivalent qualification registered with PMDC
  2. Completed one year House Job, with at least six months in the particular discipline
  3. One-year experience in particular specialty/Internal Medicine or General Surgery* /Allied medical or surgical discipline* in the given order of preference (as the case may be)
  4. Passed Entry Test conducted by the University & aptitude interview by the Institute concerned

5 years for MS and MD in specialties

MDS

  1. BDS/equivalent qualification registered with PMDC
  2. Completed one year House Job
  3. Passed Entry Test & interview

M.Phil

  1. To be eligible for admission to M. Phil., a candidate shall possess an MBBS / BDS degree. Any other higher degree e.g., M.Sc. in relevant field can be recognized by the University as equivalent, to aforementioned degrees. This shall only apply to very distinguished or outstanding candidates.
  2. Admissions shall be made on the basis of merit in accordance with the following criteria:
    • 60% Qualifications with previous academic record & relevant experience
    • 10% Entry Test
    • 30% Interview

M.Sc. Nursing
Eligibility to the program:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, from recognized institution/affiliated to a University approved by HEC.
  • Minimum 1 year clinical or nursing administration experience
  • Open domicile
  • Open gender

  • Mathematics
  • Aptitude test
  • General/current events
NOTE:
Only those candidates who pass the entrance test shall be eligible to appear in interview.

M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology
