Introduction
The UHS library is a specialized medical/health sciences library intended to serve the
faculty, students, researchers and staff of the university. The library has a plentiful and
diversified collection of information resources. The collection of the library is developed in
line with the requirements of offered courses as well as to support research endeavors being
undertaken at the university. Providing support to scholarly pursuits and research activities
along with curriculum related needs of the students and faculty of the university are the
determinants for selection and procuring new library material. The UHS library is exploiting
state-of-the-art technology and systems. Library is utilizing open source integrated library
system i.e. Koha, to automate its operations. Similarly, EM based security system has been
deployed to secure the library collections. The collection of the library is being added, with a
steady pace, to keep the collection updated. Besides books on hardcore medical subjects,
library also possesses some books of popular literature and Islam. Currently, UHS library
houses over 6,000 printed and 50,000 electronic books, 35,000 electronic journals are
accessible across the campus as well as remotely through VPN facility. Library also owns other materials including audios, videos,
CD-ROMS, DVDs, etc. In order to provide maximum facilitation to faculty and students of the
university, seminar libraries have also been established within the academic departments of
the university. These seminar libraries help faculty of concerned department to fulfill their
information needs immediately. The professional and para-professional staff of the UHS
library remains available round the clock to assist library users in their academic endeavours
through high quality innovative services.
The books and other reading materials are arranged subject wise into various sections. The
library material has been classified through internationally recognized; the Dewey Decimal
classification scheme, which provides basis to catalogue and shelving of information
resources.

The library has a range of collections both in print and electronic formats. The major collections are:
General CollectionThis is the main collection containing high quality selective books related to the UHS academic programmes. The major subject areas are Anatomy, Allied Health Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemical Pathology, Family Medicine, Forensic Sciences, Human Genetics & Molecular Biology, Haematology, Immunology, Medical Education, Microbiology, Morbid Anatomy & Histopathology, Nursing, Oral Biology, Oral Pathology, Physiology, and Pharmacology. The general collection also contains some selected books on famous literature and Islam.
Reference CollectionA variety of current reference sources are available In the library. This collection also contains dictionaries, encyclopedias, and handbooks.

Research Support Service
Literature Searching
The library does its best to facilitate its patrons in searching for relevant literature in order to support their academic and research endeavors.
Information Literacy Programs
The library provides instructional programs to maximize its patrons’ use of library resources and services. These include orientation programmes, hands-on trainings, in-class sessions, and workshops and seminars on various instructional and research tools like Turnitin, Endnote, SPSS, and also on the use of various electronic databases.
Plagiarism Detection Management Services
The library facilitates UHS faculty’s access to online plagiarism detection and management softwares, such as Turnitin.
The library facilitates researchers, faculty and students of the university in managing their citations/bibliographies. For this purpose, we are exploiting commercial as well as free-of- cost citation management tools. These tools include End Note, Ref Works, Mendeley and Zotero. The library also provides hands-on training in effectively utilize these resources.
Document Delivery Service
The library has special arrangement with international document supply centers. If a journal article is not available within library holdings or online databases, the library can get it delivered electronically. The electronic document delivery service is restricted to research projects only. If you could not find your required electronic resource, you can write to us at: ([email protected]). We shall try to find your required document and respond within 24 hours.
On Line Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
We are also pleased to share that an integrated library management system has been deployed in the library. Technical processing and data entry of library resources is underway. A web OPAC will be launched soon after the completion of data entry. This is also one among the pre-requisites for offering automated circulation services
Table Of Contents And Provision Of Articles & Electronic Books
The library regularly sends table of contents of subscribed resources to faculty of the university. Full text articles, in print or electronic format, are also provided on request. Reprographic Services
In
order to facilitate library users, UHS library also provides paid
printing, photocopying and scanning facilities on following rates:-

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global is the worlds most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses from around the world, spanning from 1743 to the present day and offering full text for graduate works added since 1997, along with selected full text for works written prior to 1997.
